"I had a hard time putting your book down last night. I'm looking forward to spending many more hours with it. You've done a magnificent job"
Cheryl Waterman, Worship Leader |
I was born into an artistic family in Boston, Massachusetts. Dance, music, and art lessons filled my early years. Saturday mornings my siblings and I watched the children’s movies at the Brattle Square Cinema. I sat mesmerized by the opening film footage of the American flag rippling in the breeze, with lush orchestration of the national anthem. Little did I know that one day I would make sculpted fabric angels eighteen feet tall!
In 1954 the family lived in Rome, Italy. The whole year we soaked in art treasures. In 1968 I completed a master’s degree in theater from Northwestern University, and went on to be an actress in New York City. Later I studied at the French Fashion Academy and opened my design boutique on Cape Cod. I turned my life over to Jesus Christ in 1979. He has been my Art Director ever since. To my amazement an outpouring of 400 worship banners occurred from 1989 to 2003, for churches, conferences, and private clients. The Lord taught me each step of the way. At that time there were few books on banner making.
Now retired, I have written the book I wish had been available when I began. I enjoy encouraging artists in spiritual growth and skill and guiding churches to feed Christ’s sheep good visual food through sanctuary art. Currently I consult with pastors, church leaders, and artists, and teach banner-making workshops.
